Plunging temperatures and extreme weather have failed to take their toll on a major installation project involving Flowcrete’s corrosion protection range ATB-300®, at Snøhvit, the first offshore development in the icy Barents Sea.
As part of the ongoing works to prepare the Melkøya site for works, a range of ATB-300® shrink free vinyl ester systems from Flowcrete Corrosion protection – part of the Flowcrete Group - are being used to protect and preserve 12 storage tanks at the site, where an 11°C temperature has to be maintained despite the fact that outside temperature can go down to minus 10°C, with snow and wind. Housed underground, in the middle of Melkøya, the tanks will be used to store waste water from the gas production plant.
Products used at the Melkøya site include the ATB-300® GL glass laminate lining system, for all the walls in the underground waste water treatment area, installed at a standard 3mm thickness. For the floor, the ATB-300® H-05 screed system has been applied at a thickness of 5mm. The ceiling of every tank has been covered with the ATB-300® RC roller coat system, installed at a thickness of 1mm.
“The products have performed well in the extreme conditions of Scandinavian winter and have been applied despite the limitations of the weather The project has gone well and proved the ability of the ATB-300® range to work in some of the most extreme site conditions in the world.”
