Located in Gala Place, Mong Kok, which is one of the most densely populated places in the world, the new Starbucks commemorates the company’s 15th year in Hong Kong and it includes a number of features that focus on coffee excellence, local creativity and interior design ingenuity.
The renowned coffee brand required a floor that would maintain a clean, attractive and on-brand finish despite constant foot traffic, frequent cleaning and the inevitable coffee spillages. To achieve this, 280m2 of both the semi-dry cementitious screed Isocrete K-Screed and the seamless epoxy resin terrazzo system Mondéco Earth was applied within the store during a one-month installation.
Starbucks specified an almond coloured Mondéco Earth floor to create a glittering, seamless surface that tied into the store’s cosmopolitan, urban aesthetic – a look that is critical to Starbuck’s strong brand image. The epoxy system can withstand the on-site challenges and, unlike the traditional tiles used in coffee houses, it has no cracks or joints that harbour dirt and dust. Mondéco’s easy-to-clean nature and durability means that it will maintain its appearance for the long term.
Isocrete K-Screed's exceptional drying and curing speeds was a significant advantage for the store, as it sped up the flooring project and allowed for an earlier opening date. Isocrete K-Screed is able to provide these application benefits without compromising on functionality, as it is able to deliver a strong, level and reliable platform that was perfect for the application of the Mondéco Earth finish.
